Signs of Illness

By Anna Kelly

Anna Kelly is a queer, 20 year old writer who is infatuated with words. She is currently pursuing an English degree and her poetry has been featured in multiple of her college's literary magazines as well as publications such as Astraea Zine. When not writing, she spends her time reading and bullet journaling.

Sunken eyes on a face made of porcelain,

ripe plum hues contrasting with the otherwise perfect pale.

A lifetime of wear captured in her reflection.

She dabs on creams, attempting to mask marks deemed unsightly.

Nothing hides her sickly, lethargic state,

for it runs much deeper than an external facade.

Fatigue flitters through her veins like blood,

never ceasing and no reason why,

decomposing her from the inside out,

and all she has to show for her hardships

is sunken eyes on a face made of porcelain.
