Old Tech Tales

By Jaimes Moran

Firstly, I am not an antique collector.

However, I do have my share of micro-fixations;

The usual autistic-related interest of the week.

I’m known as the guy with the gadgets,

I love discovering new useful tech.

And yet, I’m often a technophobe too.

Call me a technophile, eccentric Aspie.

Basically, I’m that guy who appreciates old tech.

Maybe it’s the challenge, them being abandoned;

Perhaps that’s what motivates me, the friendship.

I enjoy learning forgotten DIY advice, making tutorial videos

And showing repairs are easier then initially appears.

Old tech doesn’t make demands of us, I love that.

You don’t necessarily need Wifi or updates, just keen eyes

And the willingness to make it work again or close enough.

Typewriters are like that; dust and grime coated

And thankfully it doesn’t take much to make them sing again.

I’m no collector of antiques but I appreciate the mechanics.

Genuinely, eighty to one-hundred years later and they still work?!

How many ‘modern’ gadgets will survive that long? More than likely, none.

Chances are their plastic and cheap metal frames will turn to confetti

And two-hundred-years later, the typewriter will still be going strong.
